Carl H. Cox

AGE: 76 • New Castle

Carl H. Cox, 76, of New Castle, DE died as a result of pancreatic cancer on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at home surrounded by his family.

Carl graduated from William Penn High School, New Castle in 1957 and was a member of the National Honor Society. He was employed with Getty Oil Company in Delaware City for 42 years and retired in 1998. Carl was a member and Past Master of Christiana Masonic Lodge #35 for 34 years and served on the Grand Staff of the Grand Lodge of Delaware three times. He was also a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner at Nur Shrine Temple. In 2013, Carl was the recipient of the prestigious Gunning Bedford Jr. Medal of Honor.

Carl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandy; his four children, Joyce and Dave, Donna and Wayne, Wayne and Judy, and Gerry and Barb; his nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two year old son, Donald; two siblings; and his parents.

A viewing will be held at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Sunday, May 18 from 3:00-6:00PM, with a Masonic Service at 4:30PM.

An additional viewing will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 19 from 9:30-10:30AM, with funeral services beginning at 10:30AM. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carl may be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, PO Box 1848, Longmont, CO 80502 or Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, 2nd Floor, Newark, DE 19711.

Wayne, Gerry, Donna, Joyce, and Sandy ~ My heart goes out to all of you. Carl was an absolutely amazing man. Full of energy, optimism and compassion. I know you will miss him terribly.
