Charles Helmer Obituary
Wilmington - Charles W. Helmer, age 87, passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 5, 2017. He was born in Queens, New York, moved to New Jersey, Florida and then Delaware.
Mr. Helmer served in the US Army during the Korean War. Following receiving his Honorable Discharge, he obtained his Master's Degree in Business Management. He worked at AT&T for 41 years followed by 10 years as an Advisor for a New Jersey Community College.
He is a member of the Knights of Columbus of which he holds his 4th Degree Faithful Navigator.
Mr. Helmer is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan; 4 loving children and their spouses, Chuck & Debbie Helmer, Tom & Lynn Helmer, Keith & Jennifer Helmer, Joanne & Keith Wanamaker; and 7 grandchildren, Tim and his wife Carissa, Stacey, Bridget, K. C., Kellie, Abby and Christian.
A visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Sunday December 10 at the Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday December 11 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington, DE. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions made in his name would be appreciated to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Shopping Centre, 2nd Floor, Newark, DE 19711.

Chuck,
Nancy and I read the obituary of your father with great sadness. I enjoyed speaking with him about his life experiences, especially talking about Boy Scouts. And, it was great to see how much he enjoyed being around you, Debbie, Tim, and Stacy. How wonderful it was you were able to enjoy him all these years.
You and Debbie did a wonderful job taking care of him these last few years. May God give you fond memories of your times together.
