Charles Mac Monegle Obituary

Charles William Mac Monegle, Sr. Age 80 passed away peacefully Friday, April 30, 2004 at Christiana Hospital, surrounded by his 3 sons. Born on September 17, 1923 in Bridgeport, CT, son of Albert and Mary Mac Monegle, he was a resident of New Castle County for nearly 60 years. Mr. Mac Monegle was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Navy Corpsman in the Pacific Theater. He retired in 1983 from General Motors after 36 years of service. He was married to Katherine B. Mac Monegle until her death in 1987. He enjoyed traveling and remained active up until his death. He is survived by his brother, Albert and his wife, Dottie of Naples, FL; his 3 sons, Charles Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Modena, PA, Bruce and his wife, Helen of Greensboro, NC and Barry and his wife, Dawn of Holmes, PA; 4 grandchildren, Katie Mac Monegle, currently serving in the U.S. Air Force in Sumter, SC, Kirsten, Anna and Peter Mac Monegle of Greensboro, NC; a host of relatives and his very special friend and companion, June Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, May 6 from 7-9 pm at Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware St., New Castle, DE. A committal service for family, relatives and close friends will be held on Friday morning, May 7 at 11 am at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City, Rd., Bear, DE. (For access to the cemetery due to road closure, starting at intersection Rt. 896 & Rt. 40, take Rt. 40 West, proceed 1.7 miles and turn left onto Frazer Road to the end, turn left onto Chesapeake City Road, cemetery entrance will be on the left.)
