Donald Blythe Obituary
Donald E. Blythe Sr., age 90, passed away at his home on February 27, 2021. He was born May 18, 1930, to the late Eddy Charles and Elma R (Meredith) Blythe. Donald attended Brown Vocational High School and served in the Delaware National Guard. The majority of his working years he was a crane operator for Phoenix Steel, later called CitiSteel. Donald was an avid bowler belonging to many teams over the years. He was always willing to lend a hand when needed. Donald was a member of the Weston and Fraims Senior Centers, the Leisure Club at Fatima Church, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Donald was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Irene T. Blythe; grandsons, Andrew W. DuBois and Alex V. Blythe; and sisters, Dolores Riddle and Norma DiOrio. He is survived by sons: Donald E. Blythe Jr (Patti), William G. Blythe (Phyllis), and Roger V. Blythe; daughter, Barbara M. DuBois (William) - all of Delaware; grandchildren: Stephanie M. deMeyrignac (Laurent) of Portland, OR; Rachael V. Straughn (Jordan) of Austin, TX; Kristin Hardy (Matt) and William J. Gordon (Lauren) of Delaware and William Gordon Blythe of Ft. Bliss, TX.; 2 great-grandchildren, Aiden and Abby; and sister, Pat Connolly of CA.
A viewing for Mr. Blythe will be held Saturday, March 13, 2021, from 9:30-10:30 AM at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of Donald's life at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park. Donations may be made to B+ Foundation, 101 Rockland Circle, Wilmington, DE 19803, or to Minquadale Fire Company, 129 E.
