God's gardener, Doris, left this earth suddenly on Thursday, September 18, 2008 to tend to more pressing matters in heaven.
The daughter of the late Earle and Dorothy Piatt of Newark, Doris was a 1974 graduate of Newark High School. Doris was an avid reader and plant lover, and also enjoyed her pool time in the sun as well as her computer games. She glowed with happiness every minute she spent with her grandson. Doris dedicated her life to her work, an employee of Red Clay Consolidated School District, where she touched so many lives during her 31 years of service. She began as a night custodian, rising to fireman and then to chief custodian - she loved a challenge. Her most recent advancement was to a field supervisor position. Doris served as president and vice president of AFSCME Local 218. Her spirit will sorely be missed by her co-workers, friends and family. To those who knew Doris, she was a genuine and compassionate person, more sentimental than she would have you believe and brutally honest - never a question about where you stood with her. She was respected by most, feared by some and loved by all.
Doris is survived by her long time companion, George Tulowiecki of Newark, DE; her daughter, Christina "Nikki" Piatt and her grandson, Anthony, both of Wilmington; her brother, James R. Piatt and his wife, Barbara and their children, Jessica, Victoria and Russell of Newark, DE; and her brother, Victor Piatt and his partner, Michael of Coatesville, PA.
The family is respecting her wishes for a very private service, but rejoice in the fact that your tears will water her plants in heaven. Pray for those of us left behind.
