Age 83, passed away at the residence of her daughter in Newark, DE, on November 22, 2008, surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was born to the late Stanley P. Walker and Marion Walker. She graduated from Henry C. Conrad in 1943 and went to work at Bellanca Aircraft Corp. making dog tags for the soldiers. Dorothy enjoyed working in her gardens, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Earl M. Merrill in 1976; sister, Jane P. Lindell and half brother, George Walker. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Bobbie Merrill (William Thompson, Jr.), Patricia Powell (Ronald) of Middletown, and half sisters, Gail Mills (Arnie) of CO and Beth Queen of Texas; her grandchildren, Douglas A. Brown (Samanthe), Kevin M. Brown, Jacqueline R. Alcott (Robert), Tricia Bentley (Brigham), Christopher Powell (Francesca) and Kathryn Powell; great-grandchildren include, Dylan and Ryan, Kiria, Billy, Katie and Alexis, Hattie, and twins Meredith and Madeline.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Vitas Hospice for the care they gave to Mrs. Merrill during her illness. Special thanks goes to Vickie Monacco, RN. who assisted in those final hours.
Services will be on Wednesday, November 26, at 11 am, at MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington DE, where friends may call 10 am, with interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite302, Newark DE. 19713 or to a charity of your choice.
