Dylan Hawrylak Obituary

Dylan A. Hawrylak

Wilmington - Dylan A. Hawrylak, age 25, passed away on June 17, 2020. Born in Newark, he graduated from McKean High School, where he played lacrosse, before pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice from Del Tech.

Dylan worked for the Boys and Girls Club of Delaware at the Brandywine Springs School site for many years, at the same time serving as a Cadet for the University of Delaware Police Department. He had hopes of one day joining the Delaware State Police and enjoyed spending many hours on ride-alongs with various police troops.

A Philly sports fan through and through, he loved attending games. Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers plaques, posters, and memorabilia decorated his room. He was a patriot who loved his country and often was seen with the flag on his shirts and sweatshirts.

He was especially devoted to his grandparents and spent as much time as possible visiting and helping them. Dylan loved going to the beach to visit family and go fishing with friends or just hanging out.

Dylan was an amazing person and loved by everyone that knew him. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather John A. Hawrylak Sr. He is survived by his parents, John A. and Susan Hawrylak of Wilmington, DE; his sister, Jaime Hawrylak of Wilmington, DE; his maternal grandparents, Donna and John Hemphill; his paternal grandmother, Irene Hawrylak; his cherished aunts and uncles, Debbie Hawrylak (Gary), John Hemphill (Lovell); and beloved cousins who he enjoyed hanging out with, Rebecca, Nick, Alex, Zach, Michaela, Justin, and Jasmine, as well as second cousins and extended family.

A visitation will be held at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808 on Wednesday June 24, 2020 from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Funeral services will be held privately. Burial will be held in Lawn Croft Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Boys & Girls Club at Brandywine Spring School, 2916 Duncan Rd., Wilmington, DE, 19808.

Dylan has been a constant for my daughter Avery since she was in Kindergarten at BSS. I have heard so many stories about his jokes and pranks over the years. He has had such a positive influence on the children at BSS. I'll miss the looks at pick up that we would give each other after he got to experience my younger daughter Carly last year. I just can't imagine walking into school and not seeing him there. He will be missed so much by so many.

Susan, John and Jamie,
Our love, thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Dylan was one of the nicest, genuine young men I have ever met.
He was not afraid to show the love he had for his family and the kindness he had in his heart. Since Ive known him he always want to pursue a career in law enforcement. God has definitely gained an angel and protector. Rest In Peace angel.

It is difficult to think about losing Dylan. A kind, caring, genuinely nice person to everyone. Dylan was in our very first middle school class at BSS and then stayed part of the family working at the after care program. The kids adored Mr. Dylan, as did the adults!!! He always asked about the sports teams and never missed an opportunity to give a smile, a hello, or a wave. You are gone too soon sweet Dylan. RIP. Prayers for your family as they try to get through this time.

I am so sorry to hear of Dylan's passing. With him I knew my child was in good hands. In the years since she left aftercare, it was always so nice to see him around school with that kind, genuine smile. He will be missed.

It is so very hard to write a message about Dylan considering his untimely passing. Dylan was in my first class of 7th graders at BSS. What a nice young man he was to have in the classroom. He never said an ill word against anyone. I loved talking to him after he graduated high school and was at BSS working for the Girls and Boys club before and after care. He was amazing with the kids n the kids loved him. His dream of becoming a policeman was so important to him and I loved discussing his aspiration with him. Dylan you wont be forgotten. RIP and Ill be praying for your family during this unbelievably difficult time. Missing you. ❤Patti Jeffers

I was lucky enough to talk to Dylan quite often after school. Usually it was about our Eagles falling short again. I'm glad that he got to see the Eagles win before he passed, but losing a good guy like him hurts.

I am so sorry for your loss. My daughter went to the boys and girls club and Mr. Dylan was her favorite counselor. He helped her feel happy and secure when she had trouble adjusting to school. He will be missed.

Dylan was a good friend. A goofy guy you could rely on. I grew up with him at BSS and further on at McKean and it's hard to believe he's gone. My condolences to the family, he will always live on in all our hearts.

Though I only knew Dylan in passing, that was enough to know he was a very kind young man. His interactions with the children at BSS showed he genuinely cared about them, and they adored him in return.

Dylan was a student of mine at Brandywine Springs. We then worked together at BSS and had many chats over the years, frequently about his career plans in law enforcement, and sports. I enjoyed seeing him interact with his kids, while they played in the gym before and after school. I will miss his smiling face, his laid back presence...Im sure everyone at BSS feels the same way. Im glad I knew him.
