Metzger
Age 88, of Elizabethtown, formerly of West Chester, died on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at her home. Born in Wilmington, DE, she was the daughter of the late Harold L. and Helen Booker Merrick. She was the wife of Charles L. Metzger who died in February 2006.
Edith was a 1941 graduate of the former Westbrook College in Maine. She graduated in 1944 from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington, DE. Mrs. Metzger was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Chester and attended Sell Chapel at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. She served as President of the Wentworth Home, was a member of West Chester Country Club, New Century Club, Chester County Hospital Women's Auxiliary, the Forty-Niners Chorus and was an avid Bridge player. Edith spent many years devoted to her family and community.
She is survived by her son: C. Lee, Jr., husband of Shirley C. Metzger, Perkasie; a daughter: Helen M., wife of Ricke Zumsteg, Wilmington, DE; three grandsons: Charles L. Metzger, III, Christopher J., husband of Heidi Metzger and Eric, husband of Liza Zumsteg.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown at 10:00 AM. Friends may call at the chapel from 9:00 until the time of service. Interment will take place in Silver Brook Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
The family would like to thank Central Penn Nursing Care for the care they provided to Edith.
