Rawstrom
(Morrison)
Sally quietly passed away at age 90 years on January 12, 2010 at Millcroft Nursing Center in Newark, DE where she had been a resident for 15 years.
Sally was born May 22, 1919 in Rochester, New York to the late William Morrison and Alice Filer Morrison. She was the youngest of three children. Sally was nicknamed by her childhood friends and worked as a stenographer before marrying her beloved husband, Harry W. Rawstrom on November 20, 1941. They moved to Newark, DE in 1946 where Harry became the University of Delaware swimming coach for 35 years, and for whom the pool was named in his honor in 1992. Sally and Harry were married for 52 years before his death in 1994. Sally worked as a secretary for many years in the Newark School District, retiring in 1983. She was also a Welcome Wagon representative. Her friendly smile and kind manner were assets in both jobs. Sally and Harry were members of the Newark United Methodist Church. They enjoyed bridge club, long walks together, Delaware football games, gardening, traveling to Master's swim meets, and their summer home in Bethany Beach, DE.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Millcroft for their 15 years of dedication, caring and kindness. They also want to thank the staff at Vitas Hospice Care for their thoughtfulness and support.
Sally is survived by her daughter, Susan R. Cathcart and her husband, David; and her son, Robert Raw-strom and his wife Linda; both of Newark. Sally has four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Employee Appreciation Fund at the Millcroft Healthcare Center, 255 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE, 19711.
