Frank Nardo

Frank Nardo, age 93, passed away on September 23, 2013. Frankie, as he was affectionately known, was born in Wilmington, DE on March 20, 1920, and was a city resident on 4th Street for all 93 years of his life. He attended the old Wilmington High School, and then served in the U.S. Army with honor and valor during WWII. Upon his return, he began work as a barber with his father, Gaetano, and brother, Dominic, on 4th Street. After retiring, he volunteered at St. Francis Hospital for many years. Frankie was an avid Phillies, Eagles, Ravens, and UD Football and Basketball fan. He also enjoyed frequenting Delaware Park and attending The Saint Patrick Center. The family would like to thank the Center for all of the kindness and services they provided over the years.

The family also wishes to thank Naty Mercado, her family, and the 1700 block of 4th Street for always being there for Frankie. He was everyone's Uncle and Grandfather, and will be greatly missed.

Frank was predeceased by his parents, Nancy and Gaetano Nardo; sister, Theresa Papili; and his brother, Philip Nardo. He is survived by his older brother, Dominic Nardo of Wilmington, and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 15th and King Sts. in Wilmington, on Thursday, October 3 at 10:30am. Committal Services will immediately follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday morning, prior to mass, from 10-10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Patrick's Center, 107 14th St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
