Franklin Nelson Obituary

Franklin J. Nelson

Franklin James Nelson, 64 of Newark, passed away peacefully at home on March 10, 2017, surrounded by family.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of Barbara E. Nelson and the late John W. Nelson, Sr. Frank was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Jean (Bryson) Nelson; his son Franklin Nelson, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer; his daughter Heather Dunlap and her husband, Ryan; his granddaughter, Avery Dunlap; and his beloved dog, Peanut. He is also survived by his brother, John Nelson Jr; sisters Debbie Hale and Beverly Nelson; brother-in-law's Robbie, Victor, Jimmy and Billy; sister-in-law's Sophie and Vicky; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank proudly served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. After retiring from DuPont in 2015, he spent every moment doing what he loved most. He enjoyed being outdoors with his dogs, watching television with his wife, and spending time with his family. He cherished every moment spent with his granddaughter, Avery, whom he lovingly called Boobear. He was also an avid supporter of his favorite baseball team, the Phillies.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark DE 19702. The visitation hour beginning at 3 pm followed by a funeral service at 4:30 pm. Interment will be private.

I was a co-worker of Franks at the Edge Moor plant for many years and he was actually one of the first persons I met when originally hired. Frank was a great guy, co-worker, and just a pleasure to be around. I was saddened to hear of his passing and wish his family peace and comfort during this most difficult time.

I am saddened by the news of Frank's passing. He was a good man, and I enjoyed the time we spent working together with all of the boys in the NALL. I look back on the many hours we spent teaching and coaching. Perhaps my fondest memory of Frank was being in the Father / Son Hitting League with our sons. He might have enjoyed winning the championship more than Franklin, Jr. I will miss him.

To the Nelson Family,
It saddens me to hear of Frank's passing. I worked with Frank at the Edgemoor Plant. I feel as though I know each one of his love one's personally for Frank shared each of his fine moments of you with me, Heather, Franklin Jr., Jean and always Mom(Mrs. Barbara). Only got to talk with him once as a proud grandfather to Avery. He will certainly be missed, stay strong; for I will keep you in my prayers.
