George Bayley Obituary
George Winthrop Bayley was born December 27th, 1927 in Brockton, MA to Charles and Grace Bayley. He died 30 March, 2016 in Greenville DE.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, four daughters, four stepchildren, six grandchildren, one sister, and hosts of grateful pupils.
George had been a church organist for seventy-two years, as well as teaching at several boarding schools and universities. He is well known for having had many organ bench exchanges in the United Kingdom and for giving many organ recitals while there.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 16 April at 11:00 o'clock at Immanuel Episcopal Church, Highlands, on the corner of West Seventeenth Street and Riverview Ave, Wilmington. Memorial gifts to the Immanuel Highlands music fund, or the Cathedral Choir School in Wilmington would be welcomed.

He taught me piano lessons at St. Andrews Church in Hilton Village, Virginia. (I even majored in music in college!) I'm sad to hear this news as I really admired him. My condolences to Elizabeth, Debbie and the rest of the family.

George was my music teacher, chorus and madrigal director, and friend at Windsor Mountain School from 1957-1961 when I graduated. I also babysat occasionally for his two adorable daughters. He was a loving father, a caring friend, a committed musical director, and for me, he instilled an appreciation of serious music. He exposed us to Beethoven, and church masses and all sorts of music the average teenager doesn't hang around. He had a profound influence on us, and the love of serious music has stayed with me all my life, thanks to George. I hope his family reads this, to know how great his reach was and how important he was to many, many students at WMS.

I will remember George not only for his musical acumen and love of Scotland, but for how kind he always was toward me, especially when my mother passed away early in our acquaintance. I will miss him. My heart goes out to Libby and the rest of the family.
