Hugh Walter BURTELLE

Hugh Walter Burtelle, Jr. Age 80 of Seaford, DE died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at his residence. Born in Seaford, DE the beloved son of the late Hugh Walter, Sr. and Emma Cooper Burtelle. Walt was raised in Seaford. Following graduation, he obtained the rank of Sergeant while serving in the United States Army in Germany during WWII. He was a member of Nanticoke Post #6 American Legion in Seaford. Walt had been an employee of S.C. Cummings & Sons for 50 years, before retiring at age 65. Gardening and woodworking were favorite hobbies , along with spending time with his faithful dog, Pepper. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jacqueline Porter Burtelle ; and 6 children, James Burtelle and wife, Shirley, Cynthia Hill and husband, Richard, Bruce Burtelle and wife, Donna, Denise Barron and fiancee, Tom Jeannette, Cheryl Bechtel and husband, Tom and Mark Burtelle and wife, Linn; 11 grandchildren, Penney Johnson and husband, Chris, Katrina Hill, David Burtelle and fiancee, Amy, Michael Burtelle and girlfriend, Franchescha, Nichole Barron, Krista Barron, Samantha Barron, Christopher Truitt, Todd Truitt, Brittany Bechtel and Devon Burtelle; 2 great grandsons, Austin Burtelle and Aaron Burtelle. Also surviving him is his devoted sister, Arlene B.C. Murray and her husband, Reynolds "Pat" of Ocean View, De. In addition to his immediate family he has 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mildred B. Stewart and Sylvia B. Covey; and 1 brother, Alan Burtelle. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, April 4, 2004 at Nanticoke Post #6 American Legion, Front Street, Seaford, DE. there will be no viewing.
