James L. Cowan, Jr.

AGE: 52 • Newark

James L. Cowan, Jr., age 52, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2014.

Born in Lewistown, PA on January 19, 1962, he was a son of James L. Cowan, Sr. and Marjorie R. Swan Cowan. James was a member of the Newark High School graduating class of 1980. A talented carpenter, James worked for Drywall Associates located in Newark for many years.

He was a gifted baseball player, and in his youth pitched for the Newark and Babe Ruth Little Leagues, and later for Newark High School. James was inducted into the Babe Ruth Baseball Hall of Fame, where he was honored for his excellent pitching abilities. In his leisure time, he was an avid bowler and hunter. Additionally, James was a member of the American Poolplayers Association (APA) and greatly enjoyed playing pool with fellow members and friends.

In addition to his parents, James is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Linda M. Galezniak Cowan; daughters, Valerie Parker and Rebecca Rodriguez (Gerard); brothers, Michael Cowan (Maryann) and Charles Cowan (Denise); 2 grandchildren, Vanessa and Gabriel Rodriguez; numerous aunts and uncles; and his loyal canine companion, Angel.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday morning, February 8, 2014, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where friends may call from 9 am until 10:30 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702 B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
