Jane HOFFMAN Obituary

Jane Kniveton Hoffman A longtime resident of Elkton, MD and formerly of Wyncote and Bala Cynwyd, PA died suddenly April 29, 2004 at her residence. She was 72 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late James Kniveton and Frances Mackie Kniveton Feltman. After graduating from Abington Friends School in 1951, she attended Peirce Business School. Mrs. Hoffman was an executive for Modern Laundry and Dry Cleaning for many years before retiring. She was a longtime leader in Soroptimist International, a charitable organization of businesswomen from all over the world. She was a past governor and district director of the North Atlantic Region. She also served at the federation level, chaired many committees at the regional level, as well as holding a variety of positions at the club level. At the time of her death, Mrs. Hoffman was president of Soroptimist International of Philadelphia. A dynamic woman, Mrs. Hoffman, who had no children, traveled to all continents for Soroptimists, adopting a world of women for whom she was mentor, a sister in spirit, and a close friend. She is survived by her husband, Edward G. Hoffman; her sister, Ruth K. and her husband, Edward Fackenthal, of Paoli, PA; and her nephews, James Fackenthal, Richard Fackenthal and John Fackenthal. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at the Abington Presbyterian Church, 1082 Old York Rd. (at Susquehanna Rd.), Abington, PA 19001. Friends will be received after the service. Burial in Hillside Cemetery will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be sent to Soroptimist International of Philadelphia, c/o Beverly Carr, 350 S. Main St., Doylestown, PA 18901.
