Jay Brinsfield Obituary
Wilmington - Jay Royce Brinsfield, 81, died March 19, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Reids Grove, Maryland, he was the son of the late Arthur C. Brinsfield and May Elizabeth Insley. He was predeceased by 5 siblings.
Jay was a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. An entrepreneur, Jay bought his own pharmacy and parlayed that into a successful retail career. Starting with four locations, Jay created the largest chain of Hallmark Card and Gift Shops with more than 140 stores in twelve states. Most recently he was Chairman of Calvert Retail, Inc.
Jay was an avid golfer. He was a member and former president of Wilmington Country Club and a member of Jupiter Hills Club. He was also a long time owner of standardbred horses, two of whom were Calvert and Royal Prestige.
Jay is survived by his wife, Anne M. Brinsfield; three children, Glenn Brinsfield (Marcia), Cynthia McLaughlin (Brian) and Eric Brinsfield (Martha Lynn); four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
At the family's request, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Delaware Nature Society- Coverdale Farm Preserve (PO Box 700, Hockessin, DE 19707). Online condolences may be sent through mccreryandharra.com.

Royce was my mother's youngest brother. Of all my uncles, he was my favorite. I still fondly remember our common love of pro football and our conversations whenever we got together. I still remember the white souvenir football he had that was signed by the 1969 Baltimore Colts such as John Unitas,Earl Moral, Bubba Smith and Tom Matte. Wish I could have seen him one more time.
