John Adamovage Obituary

John "Johnny" Adamovage Sr.

Age 94, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Monday January 2, 2012, holding the hand of his most devoted fan, his daughter Lisa.

John was born in Shenandoah, PA. He worked in the coal mines as a young man until he got trapped in a mine collapse. After that, he decided that wasn't the life for him and never returned to a mine. Shortly after, WWII called and John answered. He proudly served the US Army and was extremely proud of the work he did for his country, especially the secret airstrip his unit built on Ascension Island. Ending up at the New Castle Airbase, John earned an Honorable Discharge. It was here he met his "Honey Lamb" Mary, married and started a family. He became a truck mechanic and after many years retired from Courtesy Ford and moved to Rehoboth Beach for some crabbing and clamming. John and Mary returned to New Castle in September 1999 to be closer to family, however, we lost Mom in January of 2000 to a massive heart attack.

John liked crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, pulling weeds, talking about his days in the army, but most of all his family. He just loved staying busy. He logged miles in his wheelchair through the halls at the Arbors. John was a very kind, gentle and patient man. No one could untangle Christmas lights like he could. He was an awesome father and considered everyone a friend. If you ever really took the time to get to know him, you were a lucky person, because he was a very special person on the inside.

John is survived by his daughter Lisa Adamovage-Hoback with whom he shared a special bond, her husband Randy and 2 children Ashley and Andrew with whom he lived with for several years after the passing of his beloved wife Mary. He is also survived by his son John Jr. and wife Gloria, son David Sr. and wife Shirley and son Martin and wife Mina. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren.

The family would especially like to thank the Arbors at New Castle where John lived for the past 2 years. The staff loved and cared for him like he was a member of their own family. It was deeply appreciated.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Peter the Apostle, 521 Harmony Street, New Castle, DE at 11 am on Tuesday January 10, where family and friends are invited to call after 10 am. Burial will follow in Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John's name to The National Stroke Association, 9707 E. Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, CO 80112. This disease robbed John of his independence 6 years ago. Learn the warning signs so it doesn't rob you.
