John M. "Jack" Conway, Jr. Age 71 of Newark, DE passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, February 16, 2004. Jack was born in Pittsburgh in 1942 to the late John Anthony Conway and Mary Josephine (Maisel) Conway. He was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Korean conflict. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart, the Untied Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, with 5 bronze stars and the National Defense Service Medal after his discharge in 1954. He retired from Amtrak in 1991 after more than 30 years of service. He volunteered for the Boy Scouts, Capital Trail Football and Little League while raising 7 children with his wife. He was active in the Capital Trail Lions Club holding many offices including district governor of the Lions Club for DE in 1976. He was a past member of the VFW, Loyal Order of Moose #1578 and the American Legion. He was also a member of St. John the Beloved Parish in Milltown for over 30 years and a member of Holy Family Parish in Newark for the past 2 years. Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ellen (Christe) Conway; his sons, John A. Conway of Wilmington, Michael H. Conway and his wife Shari of Wilmington and Joseph E. Conway and his wife, Nancy of Bear; his daughters, Patricia C. Merritt and her husband John of Wilmington, Kathleen C. McGraw of Bear, DE, Mary A. McDonald and her husband, Joe of Newark and Caroline C. Buczik and her husband, Michael of Rehoboth Beach; 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; his brother, George M. Conway and his wife, Cecilia of Allison Park, PA. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert J. Conway. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church, 15 Gender Rd., Newark, DE 19713 on Thursday, February 19 at 10:30 am. Burial in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE will be held privately with family. Friends may call at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek on Wednesday evening, February 11 from 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jack may be sent to Holy Family Church.
