John Kadtke Obituary

John Joseph Kadtke

AGE: 89 • Newark

John Joseph Kadtke, 89, of Newark, DE., went home to be with the Lord he loved and served on Friday, July 25, 2014.

John proudly served his country in the US Navy as a Boatswain Mate second class in the Pacific during WWII. He was a member of Shickshinny Bible Church in PA where he served as a deacon. Later he and his wife joined Faith Presbyterian Church in Wilmington where he served as an elder, taught Sunday School, and helped with the Boys Brigade. John and his wife could be heard singing on the radio during the "Good News Hour." He was a faithful volunteer at the Prison Outreach of Delaware. His skills as an auto mechanic blessed many. Despite all these wonderful accomplishments John will be remembered most as a devoted husband, caring father, and doting grampa who was a wonderful godly example to all.

John is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Frances Belles Kadtke; 2 sons, David Kadtke (Suzanne), and Joe Kadtke (Nancy); 1 brother, George Kadtke (Janice); 1 sister Adella Thiemann; 6 grandchildren: Heather Sapp (Shannon), Jenny Brown (Dan), Todd Kadtke, Liesl Kadtke, Timothy Kadtke (Shannon), Andrew Kadtke (Jill), and April Bilton (Christopher); and 7 great grandchildren: Bregan, Tory, Liam, Cricket, Piper, John, and Jackson. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Edward and Elmer "Dutch" Kadtke; and 2 sisters, Pauline Kadtke and Carol Yudiski.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 11 AM-12PM at the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a service in celebration of John's life at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's memory to Prison Outreach of Delaware, P.O. Box 7633, Newark, DE 19714-7633. For directions or to send an online condolence visit www.strano-feeley.com

I grew up in Oak Hill next door to John and Francis. I couldn't have asked for better neighbors. I have great memories of John, always ready to offer you a wonderful story and a smile. He, along with Francis, would bring my family homemade jams, fresh home grown tomatoes and apples. When I was little, playing outside, I would feel safe and comfortable, seeing the familiar face of John. He would usually be outside or in his garage. As I got a bit older, him and Francis, would invite my best friend and I to come over and make crafts. We absolutely loved spending time there. I can truly say that John made a difference in how wonderful my childhood was. My parents, Breck and Linda, and my sister, Lauren, also feel extremely grateful for having the wonderful experience of knowing him. My thoughts are with Francis.

John was a good friend to my Dad when they worked together at DuPont's Chestnut Run. John was always willing to look at my car when things were not going right. He was a blessed man and will be missed by many. Thank you John and God blessed with you.
