John James Vahey, age 66, of South Bethany, DE, formerly of Blue Point, NY, passed away June 15, 2006 at home, surrounded by his family.
A graduate of St. John's University in June 1961, he served in the US Army Reserves from 1961-1967, when he was honorably discharged. John worked for J.P. Morgan for 38 years, retiring in 1997 as managing director. He was active in B.A.I., the New York Clearing House, and other industry committees. He was a parish volunteer at Our Lady of the Snow, in Blue Point, NY, until 1985, when he relocated to Newark, DE. He was actively involved in Christmas in April, in Wilmington, DE, for 10 years, was a board member of the Year 1995 for the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, and served on the South Bethany Planning Commission. He loved his family, cherished his Irish heritage, and his deeds will speak his praise.
John is survived by his loving wife of nearly 43 years, Betty; his sons, John, and his wife, Tricia, of Mattituck, NY, and Dan, and his wife, Lisa, of Bayport,NY; and daughters, Mary and Mike Moxley, of Hockessin, DE, Kate Berster, and her husband, Frank, of Newark, DE, and Maureen, of Wilmington, DE. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Delia and Ryan Vahey, and Elizabeth and Julia Berster; 2 sisters, Margaret Vahey and Julia Shea; and brother-in-law, Daniel C. Mooney, and his wife, Maureen.
Friends may call at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek, on Sunday, June 18, 2006, from 2-4 pm or from 7-9 pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE, on Monday, June 19, 2006, at 10 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
