Josephine Mattie Obituary
Josephine K. Mattie, age 102, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2017. She was a resident of Sunrise Senior Living, Wilmington, DE. Josephine was born and raised in Chester, PA., the daughter of the late Karl & Minerva Kerth.
After completing high school she earned a nursing degree from Atlantic City Hospital, Atlantic City, NJ. in 1936. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling, entertaining, reading, and was an avid bridge player. She was very accomplished in sewing, knitting and crocheting and had a passion for antiques. Josephine enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was regarded by all as a superb cook and hostess. She was a loyal Phillies fan and was always up for a rousing political discussion. In addition to her parents, Josephine was predeceased in death by her husband of 50 yrs., George Mattie and her son, Karl Mattie, sister, Elsie Allen and brother, Karl Kerth.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Nagle, son-in-law, James Nagle, grandson James C. Nagle (Lisa) and great grandchildren, Carson & Parker Nagle. She is also survived by her devoted niece, Lori Allen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful care managers and nursing staff at Sunrise Senior Living, Wilmington, DE and Vitas Healthcare, Newark, DE.
A private burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, VA., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution in Josephine's name to: Brandywine Valley SPCA, 600 South Street, New Castle, DE 19720 and/or Faithful Friends Animal Society, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804.
