Kevin Dougherty Obituary
AGE: 64 • Georgetown
Kevin Dougherty, 64, of Georgetown, passed away on Tuesday September 15, 2015 at Kent General Hospital.
Kevin was born in Wilmington and had previously worked for the National Guard as a Supply Sergeant. He also served in the US Army doing two tours in Vietnam.
He was a longtime active volunteer of the Minquas Fire Co., in Newport and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a Nascar, Phillies, and Eagles fan, as well enjoying the slots and taking trips to the casinos. Kevin loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ellen Westerman and his brother, Joe Dougherty.
He was survived by his wife Peggy (Van Dyke) Dougherty; children Venita Bledsoe (Ted), Sharon Churchwell (Brian), Rick Melvin (Karen), Chris Melvin (Dawn), Sean Crothers, and Kevin P. Dougherty; grandchildren Troy and Michael Whitaker, Kylie Frazer, Ashley, Cory, and Katelyn Melvin; siblings Paul Dougherty (Sally), Peggy and Keith and special canine pal Buner.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, DE 19947 where friends may call after 10 am. Interment will be at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Special Olympics Delaware, 619 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716.
Kevin loved the slower pace in Sussex County and has requested casual dress for his service.
