MADELINE MCLAUGHLIN Obituary

Madeline T.

McLaughlin (Moffett)

Age 81, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2009, with family members by her side.

Madeline was born in Wilmington on May 5, 1927, daughter of the late Rose and Charles Mergen-thaler. Growing up in Marshallton, DE, Madeline was a life member of Mill Creek Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Matty, as she was known by many, loved serving people. This was evident with her years of managing or serving meals at the Maryland Ave. Charcoal Pit, the Ivy Stone, and Cosmo's Restaurants where she made many friends. After her retirement, she worked for First State Bus Service aiding handicapped students to and from school. Madeline loved bowling and playing bingo. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Madeline is survived by her husband of 39 years, Michael W. McLaughlin; 4 children, Fran Tebbutt and her husband, John, Harry Moffett and his wife, Linda, Karlyn Hall and her husband, John, and Linda Moffett all of Wilmington; 2 step-children, Frank McLaughlin, Sr. and John McLaughlin and his wife, Susan all of Texas; 2 brothers, Lawrence Mergenthaler and Freddie Mergenthaler and his wife, Dolores; 2 sisters, Charlotte Hickman and Loretta Davis all of Wilmington; 7 grandchildren, Michael Hall, Stacey Broomell, Andrew Moffett, Frank McLaughlin, Jr., Ben McLaughlin, Elizabeth McLaughlin, and Heather McLaughlin; 4 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Walter Mergenthaler; sisters, Gertrude Wright, Florence Wilkins, and Margaret Birney, and step-son, Michael W. McLaughlin, Jr.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her "adopted" son, John Alexopoulos, Christiana Hospital Acute Elder Care and Heartland Hospice House.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road on Sunday, February 15, from 5-7 pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 16th at 11:30 am with interment to follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713; or Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilm., DE 19808.
