Matthew Feeney Obituary

Matthew T.

Feeney, Sr. "Matt"

Matthew T. Feeney Sr. age 52, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Friday January 28, 2011, in the Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE.

Born in Philadelphia, PA Matt was the son of the late James F. Feeney and is survived by his mother, Mary Kozikowski.

Though only 52, Matt achieved near legendary status among his peers in the auto salvage industry due to his extraordinary work ethic, loyalty, irrepressible sense of humor and of course his often imitated but never matched booming voice. There is no doubt that many of Matt's mentors, including Muzzy Crescenzo and Joe "Pop" Morgan were among the first to welcome him to heaven.

Matt's family as well as his large circle of friends, are afforded some small measure of comfort knowing that in his all too brief earthly existence, he truly lived life to the fullest. At the time he left us Matt was a very content man who fully appreciated the simple truly important things in life (family, friendship and home). Though he will be terribly missed, it will be impossible to remember Matt without a smile or a laugh. What a wonderful legacy for a wonderful man.

Matt is survived by his wife Polly Lucas, his sons: Matthew Feeney Jr. and Zachery Feeney; grandchildren: Ethan, Madison and Reese, brothers: John and James Feeney, sisters: Mary Hendrickson and Patricia Whittaker and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be celebrated on Thursday February 3, at 6 pm, at the Newark United Methodist Church, 69 E. Main St., Newark, DE where family and friends may visit from 4-6 pm. Burial will be held at a later date at the family's convenience.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Matt's memory to the Matthew Feeney Memorial Fund, C/O Wilmington Trust, 100 N. James St., Newport, DE 19804, Attn: Diane Franchetti. Arrangements by:

I grew up with Matt in Robscott and although I hadn't seen him in years, I am truly sorry to hear about his passing. He was always great fun and we had a blast together hanging out on the back road, racing dirt bikes and having bonfires. He was always laughing and mischievous. My sincere sympathies to his family and friends. RIP my friend!

I have known Matt since I was 12 years old. One of the first encounters with Matt, was when he worked at the theater in Castle Mall, he let Jane Lavelle and I get in to see "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". I was very happy about that!
