Maurice Shannon Whitlock, Jr. Mr. Maurice Shannon Whitlock, Jr., age 56 of Delaware City, DE died on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at the Christiana Hospital in Newark after a long struggle with diabetes. Mr. Whitlock was born in Bristol, VA on June 15, 1948 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War. An avid history buff from his youth, he was appointed the curator of the Berlin Military Museum while stationed in Germany. With his wife, Sunny, he owned and operated the Grand Illusions Costume Company in Delaware City (formerly in Newark). Well known for his expertise in historically-accurate costuming, Mr. Whitlock consulted on and supplied clothing for many important and award-winning Hollywood productions including Titanic, Dances with Wolves, Gettysburg, Young Guns, Ride with the Devil, The Alamo, Gangs of New York, Gods and Generals, Somersby, and the not-yet released film biography of Samuel Colt. He was also greatly interested in the Civil War and was a reenactor with a group portraying the First Virginia, Army of Virginia, CSA. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Grace A. "Sunny" Hetzler Whitlock; 2 children, Maurice "Marc" Shannon Whitlock III and Kathleen "Katie-Kate" Elizabeth Whitlock, both at home; father, Maurice Shannon Whitlock, Sr. of New Castle; mother, Pauline Swanson Whitlock of Fair Hill, MD; brother, Brandon Swanson Whitlock and his wife, Marian, of Fair Hill, MD; sister, Rebecca May Whitlock-Lang and her husband, Bryan, of Bear; 5 nieces, Taylor Whitlock, Maggie Davis, Sally Anne Davis, Annie Hetzler and Junior Hetzler; and 4 nephews, Keiran Kelly, Trip Hetzler, Brandon Davis and David Davis. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 19, 2005, at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will follow in Delaware City Cemetery.
