Michael Popowich Obituary

Michael J. Popowich

AGE: 74 • Hockessin

Michael J. Popowich passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 after a 17-year courageous battle with multiple myeloma in Newark, Delaware.

Mike was born in Niagara Falls, New York on November 14, 1940. He graduated from Alfred University with a degree in Ceramic Engineering. In 1966, he earned a Master of Sciences degree in Ceramic Engineering from Clemson University.

He was predeceased by his parents William and Anna (Piroski) Popowich, brothers Stephen and William, and sisters Mary, Estelle Lis and Anne Johnson.

Mike was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn (Adamczyk), of 42 years, sons Eric (Kristen) of Arlington, VA, David (Amina) and Jeffrey (Laura) of Washington, D.C. He is also survived by his grandchildren Alexandra, Anna, and Matthew (his best buddy) Popowich who he loved dearly.

Mike had a long and successful career working at DuPont, during which time he co-authored multiple patents and received the DuPont Marketing Award in 1994. His career took him to Wilmington, DE, California and Switzerland. He retired in 2001, giving him more time to devote to his passions, particularly his grandchildren, golf, traveling and fine wine.

A special thank you goes out to his close friends who have been so supportive during Mike's final year. Also, the family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Eric Martin and his nurses for their tireless services treating Michael.

A celebration of Mike's life was held at the Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at the following address: Dr. Nicholas Petrilli M.D, c/o Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Suite 1213, Newark, DE 19713.

Kathy and I were so shocked to hear the bad news. It has been years since we saw Mike but he was a true gentleman and a wonderful neighbor during our stay in Snug Hill! He will be missed!
