Age 66, of Claymont, DE, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Wilmington, Hospital.
Born in Mahanoy City, PA, he was the son of the late, Edward M. and Josephine P. (Zelonis) Thornton. He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Timothy Thornton, who passed in 1998. The Michael Thornton Award was given annually at the Knights of Columbus Track Meet.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John P. and Ann P. Thornton, of Claymont, DE. Also left to cherish Michael's memory are his nephew, Michael Sean Thornton and his wife, Sharon; nieces, Kathleen Staffini and her husband, Ennio, JoAnn Butler and her husband, Jay; great nephews and great nieces, Brendan, Mikayla, Michael, David, Kylie, Cassey and Sydney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 noon on Saturday, March 10, at St. Helena's RC Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Helena's Church.
