Patrick McCarthy Obituary
Age 75, of Claymont, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday June 12, 2011, at Crozier Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pa after a long illness.
Patrick was born in Chester, PA on April 27, 1936, son of the late Patrick L. and Marie McCarthy. Patrick attended St. James High School in Chester, PA and served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. He worked at Phoenix Steel, Cannon Enterprises and Hutchinson Enterprises, retiring in 1985. Patrick started in the fire service at the age of 16 at Franklin Fire Co. in Chester, PA and continued the last 26 years as a Life Active member of Claymont Fire Co. serving as vice president and various other Board of Director positions. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church where he served on Parrish Council for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus recently achieving the Fourth Degree. In 1964 Patrick married the love of his life, the late Rita Marth. Patrick also enjoyed being with his kids and grandkids especially watching the grandkids sporting events.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary McCarthy, Helen Smegelskie, Gertrude Coupe and Jean Homa. Patrick is survived by three children, Patrick G. McCarthy Jr., Janice Myers and husband Randall, David L. McCarthy and wife Lisa; six grandkids, Amanda, Caitlyn, Emily, Matthew, Nicole and Kyle; and a sister, Patricia Yacyshyn.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 16, from 6-8 pm and Friday, June 17, from 9:30-10:30 am at the MCCRERY AND HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE (Talleyville). Overflow parking is available at the YMCA on Mt. Lebanon Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11 am at Holy Rosary Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Patrick McCarthy may be sent to Claymont Fire Co, 3223 Philadelphia Pike Claymont, De 19703 or the Little Sisters of the Poor 185 Salem Church Road Newark, DE 19713.

I was so sorry to learn of your Mom's passing and am very sorry to hear about your Dad.
I remember when your Dad helped us get to and from the airport when you and I went to the Bahamas (way back when...). What a nice guy.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. I am deeply saddened by the passing of Pat. He not only cared for his family, but for his community as well. He was a class-act. I will miss our fun chats and his big hugs. May you be comforted knowing he is in our Lord's loving arms now.
