Peter DeLuke Obituary

Peter T. J. DeLuke

AGE: 73 • Wilmington

On June 18th at the age of 73, Peter lost his valiant battle against cancer. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, he was the son of the late Peter A. and Leila M. DeLuke. Peter proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked for the DuPont Company for 34 years, retiring in 1998. During his tenure, he received an Accomplishment Award for leading the development of the Agricultural Division's first electronic notebook. After his retirement, Peter was able to enjoy his lifelong passion for taking pictures, and was a professional photographer. He was blessed with the gift of creating art through the lens of a camera. His work is displayed throughout Delaware, including at the Helen Graham Cancer Center.

Peter was a 32nd degree Mason and Past Master of Brandywine Lodge No. 33 A.F. & A.M. He was proud to be a Mason for 42 years. He was also a member of Bradbury Camp #149, Department of Pennsylvania Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, holding numerous leadership posts, including Commander. Peter was a member of Mt. Salem United Methodist Church. He was active in the church, and formerly served as a lay leader.

While Peter accomplished so much during his life, his greatest gift was his kind and generous spirit. He is survived by his immediate family members Julia A. Pierce and Albert M. Engberg, Jr.; Julia's husband Robert and son Matthew, and many other friends and family members.

There will be a Masonic Service and Funeral Service on Friday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel at Gracelawn Cemetery, Wilmington Delaware. Burial will follow with military honors.

I connected with Mr. DeLuke after I told him I came from Okinawa, he related his stories when he was stationed in that tiny island. He showed me pictures he took of the local Okinawans. RIP Mr. DeLuke.

All of us at Aztec will miss Pete.
He was truly a kind person and always seem to end the conversion with something positive.
Often, before he said Goodby, he would say, "Well, I'll get out of you're hair".
Pete . . You were never a bother!
We'll miss you!

My Family and I lived right across the street from Pete for many years. I have many a fond memory of Pete. I almost always recall seeing him with his camera around his neck. I have several of his photo's framed, myself. Most of all, I will always remember him as a very kind, generous, soft spoken man. God Bless you Pete.
My deepest sorrow for your loss. I will always remember him.

I remember Pete from the time we revived Bradbury Camp in the '90s. He was a good guy. He was kind to send us copies of his photos of my dad's funeral three years ago, in which the camp played an important part.

Pete was a great friend and a proud dedicated Mason. He idolized his Civil War Ancestor and was extremely proud of his heritage. I spent many a day with Pete at Gettysburg and other Civil War events throughout the 20 years that we knew each other. When I would see Pete, he was usually pointing a camera at me or the group that I was in. He was the unofficial Camp Photographer and his photos are an archive of Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War activities. Sgt. Jones Bradbury Camp #149 will miss him greatly. Rest in Peace Pete!

I remember Pete from my early days in Crop Protection. Whenever our paths crossed at work I was always left with a smile on my face. No doubt he was a diverse character but without folks like him work would have been a very boring place. Pete was a good guy and my fun memories from work include him. I am sorry for your loss.
