Richard Luckring Obituary

Age 95 passed away peacefully at his home in Hockessin on July 7, 2012. He was surrounded in the love of his entire family: his wife of 58 years, Viola; his six children: Mimi, Paula, Michael, Eve, Abby and Andrea; his nine grandchildren: Michael, Erin, Charles, Andrew, Alexa, Ben, Eli, Ruby, and Margo; and his daughters' partners: Terry, Jeff, Kaz, Ken, and Jim. He was born in Canton, Ohio, the eldest son of Michael and Ida Luckring, and the brother to Mary, Bill, and Louise. Dick was educated as a chemical engineer and had a successful career in research and management for 39 years at the Dupont Company. After he retired he had more time to pursue his creative passion for art, gardening, and music. He remained dedicated to his piano playing even after losing his vision to macular degeneration. He was a volunteer at the Delaware Association for the Blind and advocated on behalf of the visually impaired. His sincere interest in people and his fascination for life never faded.
On Thursday, July 12, a memorial mass will be held at St. Mary's of the Assumption Church at 11am. The family will begin receiving relatives and friends at 10am. A luncheon will follow at 12:30pm at Hockessin Memorial Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's name may be made to Delaware Association for the Blind.

Although I have been in the family a short time, I will always remember the kindness he showed me. I love hearing the stories my husband Ron shares with me about uncle Dick and aunt Vi when he and his brothers were young boys. A truly kind and loving man and family.

Mr. Luckring was a wonderful person. I will miss conversing with him while walking my dogs in the neighborhood.
He wrote me a touching note when my mother died several years ago and I will be forever grateful.
My condolences to his family.
