AGE: 74 • Newark
Robert F. Bashford, Jr., age 74, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 15, 2017.
Born in Summit, New Jersey on January 29, 1943, Robert was the son of the late Robert F. and Lillian (Hickson) Bashford. He made his career with DuPont, where he was employed as an electrical engineer at the company's Glasgow site, retiring after many years of dedicated service.
An avid ham radio operator, Robert enjoyed communicating with other amateurs. In his leisure time, he loved tinkering with electrical equipment in need of his care and spent many happy hours crafting beautiful handmade toys for his grandchildren. A beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Robert will be very dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, M. Ruth Bashford. Robert is survived by his second wife, JoAnne Barnes; sons, Mark Bashford (Jeanette) of Garden City, NY and Erik Bashford (Heather) of Wilmington; brother, George Bashford of New York; sisters, Ann Berner of Illinois and Ruth Steinheim (the late Ken) of New Jersey; and grandchildren, Matthew, Katherine, Lennon, and Connor.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening, July 19, 2017, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Thursday afternoon, July 20, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert's memory may be made to the Gift of Life Donor Program, 401 North 3rd St., Philadelphia, PA 19123.
