Robert Regan Obituary

Robert L. Regan, M.D.

Robert L. Regan, M.D., age 90, passed away on January 21, 2014 at Brandywine Senior Living in Rehoboth Beach, DE.

Robert was born in Winona, MN on March 3, 1923, son of the late Harold and Irene (Leu) Regan. After graduating high school at Gonzaga in Washington DC, he enrolled in college at Georgetown University. After graduating, he attended the Georgetown Medical School with a residency in OB/GYN. During this time, he also served in the United States Navy and Air Force Reserve.

As a physician, he spent many years in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia regions. He was on the staff at Providence Hospital in DC, Fairfax Hospital in VA and a founding staff Physician at Holy Cross Hospital in MD. (Traveling the beltway when it was only a dirt road.)

As an avid golfer, he retired to a residence on the 17th fairway of Oyster Reef Golf Course on Hilton Head Island, SC. But, always a physician, he applied for and received his SC License and was appointed the Director of Planned Parenthood. Later, he also became a civilian physician at the OB/GYN clinic of the Naval Hospital in Beaufort, SC.

In 2003, he tried retirement again in Fairfield Glade, TN, because of its many golf courses. He was not on a fairway this time, but near a green where he practiced putting daily. Diagnosed with Leukemia at Vanderbilt University Hospital, he returned north with fond memories of Rehoboth Beach from his Washington area days.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sons, Robert and Michael Regan. He is survived by his loving wife Natalie (Marthouse) Regan; three daughters, Kelli and her husband Lee, Michele and her husband Sean and his little girl, Stephanie Irene; a son, Jeffrey and his wife Elizabeth; seven grandchildren: Alison, Nikki, Shannon, Kelsey, Andrea, Alexis and Natalie; and although not a son, James Broadhurst, who he loved as one.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 31, 2014 at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE, where friends may call beginning at 10 AM. A reception will follow services. Interment will be private.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE.

My thoughts & prayers are with Natalie, Kellie and the entire Regan family. Dr. Regan was my doctor for 17 years, delivering my 3 children. He was a great doctor, a wonderful person and as he once said, an Andy Williams look alike. May he rest in peace.
