Roy Henry Blomquist

Dr. Roy Henry Blomquist died on March 28th at his home in Rock Hall, Maryland after a long illness. Dr. Blomquist grew up in Newark, DE. He was the eldest son of Dr. Henry and Ethel Blomquist. Dr. Blomquist graduated from Duke University and completed his dental training at Temple University. He then served as an officer in the United States Public Health Service in Mobile, Alabama.

Upon returning to Delaware in 1967 he re-opened his father's dental practice in Richardson Park. A dental industry pioneer, he was the first dentist in the area to use direct marketing to build his Family Dental Center practice. His patients and many friends knew him as Dr. B.

Roy was the oldest of six children. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sandra (Capel); his sons Roy Kirk and Bruce Henry Blomquist; and his sister Linda Blakeman and her husband Russell. He is survived by his wife Sally, his daughters Susan and her husband Dr. Richard McLaughlin, Stephanie Davolos; Sydney and her husband Steven Beers; his daughter-in-law Denise Blomquist; his son Scott Blomquist; his grandchildren Dr. Chad Blomquist; Troy Blomquist; Ryan and Abigail McLaughlin; Eleanor and Ruth Harden; and Mason Beers; and great granddaughter Vivian Blomquist. His surviving siblings are Marie Sweeney; Louise and her husband Bruce Eastburn; Elaine Blomquist McDowell; Glenn Blomquist and countless nieces and nephews.

For the past twenty-five years Roy and his wife Sally built a life surrounded by many friends and family at their home, the River House, in Rock Hall. Roy experienced many tragic losses in his life starting at the age of 15. He weathered each of these tragedies without fear and with a commitment to choose a vibrant and active life with the people he loved most on the water, at his kitchen table, always surrounded by love and family.
