Mr. Sylvester J. "Steve" DiStefano, age 76 of Newark, DE, died on Sunday, October 23, 2005, at his home.
Born in Downingtown, PA August 31, 1929, Mr. DiStefano was the son of the late Ernest DiStefano and Josephine Donofrio DiStefano. He was employed as an engineer with the Chrysler Corporation for 43 years, retiring in 1994. Mr. DiStefano was an active member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Newark. He also served as Past Master of Hiram Lodge #25 AF&AM, and Past Worthy Patron of Newark Chapter #10 Order of the Eastern Star. A veteran of the US Air Force, he was member of both the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Mr. DiStefano coached baseball in the Newark American Little League and the Newark Babe Ruth League, volunteered at the Seamen's Center at the Port of Wilmington, and served as a student mentor. He was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed playing pool.
His wife of 42 years, E. Arlene Higgins DiStefano, died in 1994. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Lorraine Savage and Alba DiStefano. He is survived by 3 sons, Darrell L. DiStefano and his wife, Kay, of Elkton, MD, David E. DiStefano and his wife, Sharon, of Bear and Ernest J. DiStefano and his wife, Lisa, of Hockessin; 2 sisters, Virginia Phipps of Landenberg, PA and Gloria Keiper of Bear; 5 grandchildren, Heather Boettger, Michael DiStefano, John DiStefano, Lindsey DiStefano and Laura Taylor; and 3 great grandchildren, Katy Boettger, Andy Boettger and Peter Boettger.
Friends may call from 6-8 pm on Thursday, October 27, 2005, at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 121 West Park Place, Newark. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 28, 2005, at the funeral home, where friends may also call after 10 am. Interment will be in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery, 1235 Birminghan Road, West Chester, PA.
