Thomas. Fagan Obituary

Thomas J. Fagan Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, relative and friend to so many, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was born and raised in Wilmington on August 27, 1919, son of the late James and Jane Fagan. He was the second of four children, surrounded by three proud and loving sisters. He was preceded in death by one sister, Sue Trembly. Two sisters, Mary Cloud and Eleanor Doherty, both of Wilmington, survive him.
Tom grew up on DuPont Road and graduated from A.I. DuPont High School. He proudly served his country during World War II in the South Pacific and then started a successful career as a hardwood flooring contractor. Thereafter, Tom met and married his beloved wife of 58 years, Theresa (Giannone) Fagan. Tom and Theresa shared great happiness and dedicated their lives to raising their three children, Zina, Tom Jr., and Rich. Tom and Theresa became mainstays at St. Thomas R.C. Church and many a pastor benefited from Tom's unending willingness to help on the upkeep of the church, school, and gym. Tom was a big sports fan, and had a special affinity for the Phillies. Tom enjoyed golfing, always managing to get around the course in quick fashion.
Tom's children will always remember him as an engaged and supportive father who taught by example, and quietly motivated and encouraged each to be his or her own person.
Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa L. (Giannone) Fagan; daughter, Zina M. (Fagan) Walsh and her husband James; son, Thomas J. Fagan Jr. and his wife Roseanne and son, Richard J. Fagan and his wife Cynthia. Further, Tom leaves 6 grandchildren to cherish his memory: Katherine (Walsh) Berg and her husband Brian, Philip Walsh, Timothy Fagan, Molly Fagan, Adam Fagan, and Erica Fagan. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas R.C. Church, 301 N. Bancroft Pkwy., Wilmington, DE 19805 on Tuesday, October 26, at 11 am. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 to 11 am Tuesday morning. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, Newark.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom's memory may be made to either St. Thomas R.C. Church or Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810.

Aunt Theresa, Cousins Rich, Tom, Zina, and families - I am sorry for the late entry but I wanted to send my belated sympathies to you all for the passing of your Husband, your Father, and my Uncle Tom.
I have very fond memories of him. He would always make us at ease as young kids when we would visit you over the years at Christmas by always joking with us. I bet he never lost his sense of humor...
He was a great brother to my Mom as well.
I know that he is now in a better place - and is probably cracking jokes to my Dad as we speak!!

Fagan Family- I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know Thomas personally but I am sure he was a great man and he will defin itely be missed. When you lose someone it raises a lot of questions in your mind. For example, 'What happens to us when we die?' Why do we die'? 'Can we ever LIVE again?' The Bible has answered all of these question and I encourage to you to find the answer in your Bible. No doubt it will help you get over your grief and also help ease your curiousity.

A beautiful person and great uncle, indeed. My life was certainly enhanced by your presence "across the street" for many, many years. I cried when you moved from your home a few years ago, and I cry now seeing your lovely face. But, I know many are welcoming you now, including my mother, who is beaming with great joy upon your arrival. And, when that time has come, I will see you on the other side. Thank you for being a part of my earthly life.
