Willard Baxter Obituary
AGE: 86 • Newark
Dr. Willard E. Baxter, age 86, of Newark, DE, UD Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016.
Born in Chester, PA, Dr. Baxter was the son of the late James H. and Carrie E. Baxter. A graduate of Ursinus College, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Baxter taught at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio for 2 years and at the University of Delaware for 36 years. After his retirement, he volunteered as a mathematics tutor at Newark High School for 17 years.
He was a beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alvina B. (Braun) Baxter; brother Wayne H. Baxter; children Barbara Baxter (Marc Postman); Janet Baxter; Nancy Belunis (Charles); and grandchildren Alyssa, Claire, Amanda and Thomas.
Interment will be private. A memorial will be held at a future date. The family kindly requests memorial contributions to Ursinus College. Please note that gifts are in memory of Willard E. Wonderful professor, always like a fatherly figure, always passionate about his subject matters to ensure whoever came to him learned the material well. Like the saying of Gandhi: Live like you will die tomorrow, learn like you will live forever. Rest in Peace, Sir.

Mr Baxter was a great influence to me in my teens. He was a patient and helpful teacher as I struggled with many math concepts. I'll never forget the times he took me to the Phillies games, as long as they were playing the Cardinals, with his three daughters. I am sad that I was unable to pay my respects.
