William GILLESPIE Obituary

William F. Gillespie, III Age 67 of Greenville DE passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2004. Bill was born June 12, 1936 in Chicago, IL. He attended The Hotchkiss School, graduating in 1954. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Yale University in 1958 and a master's in chemical engineering in 1960. He played varsity baseball for Yale in 1956, '57 and '58. Bill joined E.I. duPont de Nemours & Co. in 1960 and served in managerial positions in numerous departments until retiring in 1984. He began a second career as a financial consultant in 1985 when he founded Gillespie Associates Inc., an investment advisory firm. Mr. Gillespie continued in the investment business and was employed by RBC Dain Rauscher at the time of his death. He served as trustee of The Hotchkiss School and was a long serving member of the board of trustees of the Brandywine Conservancy and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. Bill was an avid golfer and belonged to the Vicmead Hunt Club in Wilmington DE, Chechessee Creek Club in Okatie, SC and the Old Tabby Links in Spring Island, SC. In addition, he was a member of the U.S. Seniors Golf Association. Bill was also a member of the Wilmington Club and a brother in St. Anthony Hall, Sigma '55. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cherry Copeland Gillespie; son, Brook J. Gillespie; daughter, Sally Boettger and her husband, Scott; and daughter, Emily. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2004, at 11:30 am at Christ Church Christiana Hundred in Green-ville. Burial will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware, 669 S. Union St., Wilmington DE 19805.
