1979-2015 Daniel (Dan, Danny) Edward Kerns “If you knew him you loved him, if you didn’t love him, you didn’t know him” On October 21st 2015 Daniel E. Kerns passed away in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in correlation to an ongoing battle with his addiction. His loved ones know that he is finally at peace and will no longer have to suffer through his daily struggles of life with his disease known as addiction. Daniel was born on March 12, 1979 in Onslow, NC at Camp Lejeune Marine Corp Base to his mother Noreen Kerns (King) and his father Kevin Kerns. Daniel grew up in Ridley Township Pennsylvania where he was an avid sports fan, and athlete. He often could be found on the basketball court of the Woodlyn Projects in Ridley Township. Dan moved to Wallingford, PA to start High School and played Football, Basketball and Lacrosse for Strath Haven High School; graduating in 1997. When asked about Dan one of his former High School teammates said that “he was the biggest personality on the team”, and “he was the most competitive on the team”. The most common trait used to describe Dan Kerns on the field or the court was “competitor”. Off the field those close to him used words like funny, empathetic, charismatic, loving and loyal to describe him. After High School Daniel became a carpenter (who loved to work with his hands), a softball player, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Dan also enjoyed watching movies, reading books, traveling, going to museums, going to sporting events, and anything that involved a good time with good people. Dan could literally fit into any crowd of people. His favorite series of books were “A Song of Ice and Fire”. His favorite music group was Pearl Jam, and those that knew him would often have to listen to him singing songs from his favorite band. His greatest accomplishment in life was the birth of his Daughter Harper Grace Kerns (August 2012). One of his best friends growing up who drove him to the hospital the day she was born said, ”In all the years I have known Dan I never seen him so happy or proud as he was on that day”. His cousin said “Dan knew on that day that he had fallen in love”. Dan took great pride in being the one to pick out the name Harper for the one true love of his life. Daniel Edward Kerns is survived by his daughter Harper Grace Kerns, Noreen Ciamaichelo (King) mother, Kevin Kerns father, sisters Heather Kerns and Harlee Dannettelle, RJ Farrell nephew, and his grandmother Irene Rizzo.
