Edith Benson

Edith "Sugar" Benson Devoted her life to God and family. Edith "Sugar" Benson, on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 she was finished with her work here on earth and so was taken home to be with our Heavenly Father. Sugar was born to Edith and Coleman Finley on March 14, 1918. She attended Media public schools. She met and married Oscar "Beck" Benson Sr. on October 12, 1935. Of this union were born 7 children. She worked as a domestic and a caregiver. She was a member of Nativity B.V.M. Church in Media, Nativity Seniors, Saturday Socialites and Women of Wisdom. She will be dearly missed by all. Survivors: Sugar leaves to cherish her memory 5 sons Oscar Jr. (Linda), Russell Sr. (Jackie), Christopher (Charlette), Stephen (Stacey) and adopted son Chuck Weems; 1 daughter Kathy; 2 daughters-in-law Viola and Diane; 29 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pre-deceased by her husband Oscar Sr. "Beck"; 4 brothers Bill (Margaret) Finley, Charles Finley, Thomas (Charlotte) Finley and Robert Finely; two sons Jerome Sr. and Franklin; 2 grandchildren Jerry Benson and Joanne Benson. Funeral Service will be held Saturday October 29th, 2011 at 10 AM at the Campbell A.M.E. Church, 3rd & Olive Sts., Media. Calling hours 8 to 10 AM at the Church.
