Edward Lindsay Obituary

1924-2015
Lifelong Clifton Heights Resident
Edward F. Lindsay, Sr., 90, passed into the loving arms of God on October 3, 2015, of Clifton Heights, Delaware County, Pa.
Predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Helen Gorman Lindsay, his parents, Joseph and Elsie (Kelly) Lindsay, his parents-in-law, Francis and Mary (Hallinan) Gorman, his sisters and brothers, Anne Barr, Joseph Lindsay, William Lindsay, Mary Burnley and Catherine Taylor, many brothers and sisters-in-law, two nieces and a nephew, and a great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Donaldson.
He was a graduate of West Catholic Boys High School ('43) and LaSalle College ('50) and honorably served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, including time as a radio operator. He retired from Conrail in 1990, after 40 years as an auditor/accountant in the railroad and trucking industries. In 1955, he and his wife were founding members of St. Eugene Catholic Church in Primos, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He also worked as the parish accountant for five years after his retirement. He was a daily communicant for decades, until his health prevented him from being so. He loved gardening and sports, but most of all spending time with his family. He lived almost his entire nine decades in Clifton Heights, having been born in the family home on E. Washington Ave., weighing in at twelve pounds! He will be dearly missed by all who knew him as a kind and gentle man.
Survivors: Devoted father of S. Mary M. Lindsay, SSJ, Helene L. (Donald) Taylor, Edward F. (Cynthia) Lindsay, Jr., James G. Lindsay (James Brigl), and Joan L. (William) Braun; loving grandfather of eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and parishioners of St. Eugene Catholic Church.
Visitation: Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing at O'Leary Funeral Home, 640 E. Springfield Road, Springfield, Pa. 19064 on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Viewing will continue at the funeral home on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 9:00 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 200 Oak Avenue, Primos, Pa. 19018.
Interment: Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, Pa.
Contributions: In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward's memory are requested to St. Eugene Catholic Church, 200 Oak Avenue, Primos, Pa. 19018 or Sisters of St. Joseph, Mount St. Joseph Convent, 9701 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa. 19118.
