Life Long Resident of Tinicum Township
Harry Laica, 90, passed away on October 17, 2013 after a long illness. He was born November 22, 1922 in Lester and lived his entire life in Lester and Essington, PA. Harry proudly served in the United States Army and was in World War II as part of the 7th Army. For his service he received the Silver Star. Community service was one of Harry's passions; he was part of Fox Smith VFW Post and Bonsall, Powley, Kasonis VFW Post, and Essington and Lester Fire Departments.
As a lifelong resident of Tinicum Township, he was involved in the Patriotic Association, former president of the Republican Party and the Essington Republican League, Township Recreation Committee and Township Sewer Authority. He also served as a committee member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 37, on the board of the Tinicum Township Historical Society and the Board of Health, and he was a volunteer with Camp Sunshine. Harry was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation and retired Jan. 1, 1984. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and later St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife Anna Mae Laica. Survivors: His two children John Laica and his wife Donna, and Sharon "Sherry" Klecha and her husband Thomas; three grandchildren Stephen Laica, Heather Laica-Bhoge and Laura Laica; two great-grandchildren Jordan Laica and Peyton Laica.
Services: Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Monday evening, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday, after 9:00 a.m., at the Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood, followed by his Funeral Mass Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, Essington.
Burial: SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
