As baby brother of the family my fondest memories of big sister" center on her unwavering caring, beautiful smile, uplifting presence and courage.
Payday Friday without fail would mean a box of Chocolate Candy for our mother---which I helped to eat.
When I was not feeling well enough to go to school, big sister Jackie would bring me warm wishes, comfort... and a present. (I missed school a lot, or at least tried to)
Sea Isle City--the Atlantic Ocean was her playground. And as we got older we had Sibling Weekend in Sea Isle. Eat, drink and be merryruled the weekend, and my sister Jackie set the rules.
There was a time in New York City when my oldest daughter (nine years old at the time) was modeling on a small stage . Jackie noticed she was sniffling and uncomfortable, but the photo shoot had a schedule. Just as the photographers were about to shoot, Jackie walked right up to the stage wiped her god-daughters nose and patted her on the head. No one said a word.
My memories, like most older people, fade, but the constant, overriding memory of my big sister is one of consolation and joy. There is so much love in our family, so much caring in our children, so much devotion to others needs because my big sister inspired it in all of us. Herein lies the love, the smile and the presence of this most courageous, effervescent lady-- My sister Jackie.
