James Warrington Obituary

James H. “Ringo” Warrington, 88, a long-time resident of Delaware County passed away peacefully on March 16, 2018. Jim was a 1948 graduate of Eddystone High School where he excelled in many sports. He was employed at Sinclair, Congoleum Inc, Wyeth Labs, and BP. In retirement, he continued to work part-time at the Pond Ice Rink and then Three Little Bakers Golf Course. He was a veteran of The US Army during the Korean War. Jim was an avid sports fan, especially of baseball. If he didn’t play, he watched it faithfully. He was inducted into the Delaware County Sports Hall of Fame and was recognized as a player of the 1950’s team of the decade. He played for 18 years in the Delco League as a premier shortstop and power hitter with St. Hedwig’s, Sun Village, El Rancho, Lloyd AC, Essington, Tinicum, VFW, Fizzano, and the Chester Red Sox. He won 17 championships. Jim also spent time volunteering at the Linwood Youth Center in the 1960’s and 1970’s. He was preceded in death by his parents, Parris C. and Ella S. Warrington; Sister, Bernice S. Camillo; daughter, Lyn W. Hafich; sons, Terrance and Dana Warrington. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Ann Miller Warrington; children, James D. (Jeanmarie) of Wilmington, Dr. Alan D. (Robin Rusnak) of Wilmington, Gale W. Gill (Bucky) of Wallingford; son-in-law Thomas Hafich of Upper Chichester, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His sister Kay W. Thomsen (Fred) of Lewes, along with many nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held on Friday, March 23rd at 11am at the Joseph A. Ward Funeral Home, 1459 Market St. Linwood, PA. Friends and family are invited to call from 10am-11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery. I will miss my niece and nephew Mary Ella and Jake refer to Jim as "Big Pop" He was caring and very independent. He showed his love for Betty Anne every day. His love for baseball was evident, and we all loved his stories and memories. My condolences to his sons and daughter, my sister in law Gale and brother Bucky. He will always be in your heart.
