John Joseph Francis "Jack" Dougherty Sr.

1939 - 2017

It is with both deep sorrow and profound gratitude that we recognize the gentle passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, John “Jack” Joseph Francis Dougherty, Sr. Jack Dougherty quietly died of natural causes in the early morning of Friday, October 13, 2017 at the age of 78. Jack was born on August 5th, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pa where he shared his early years with his parents, Margaret and Charles, and five brothers, Charles, Bill, Peter, Eddie and Sam. He graduated from Saint James Elementary School and West Catholic High School in 1957 and remained true to both schools all the days of his life. On June 18, 1960, Jack Dougherty married his great love, Irene, the true focus of his life’s joy. Business associates and buyers alike from Dougherty Auto Sales remember him for his deep sense of integrity, interwoven with his ability to create both fair and sound “deals.” But his family will always carry the memory of the strength of his love and his undying devotion to those with whom he shared his life. Jack Dougherty leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Irene Dougherty, their five children, Irene (Sandi), Marylou (Jay), John, Jr.(Wendy), Daniel (Suzie), and William (Julie); seventeen grandchildren, Lindsay (Stephen), Jonathan, Connor (Janessa), Joshua, Justin, Melahnie, Lauren, Brian, Casey, Maya, Kara, Jack, Lexus, Jillian, Danny, Shannon and great grandchild, Jonathan Connor. They will carry him forward in their lives with the deepest hope of reflecting his wisdom in all that they do. Jack will be deeply missed, but ever loved. A service to celebrate the life of Jack Dougherty will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2130 Franklin Ave., Morton, PA 19070. His Viewing will begin at 9:30am followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00am. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent in Jack Dougherty’s memory to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
