Joseph Mullin Obituary

Joseph F. Mullin, 81, formerly of Briarcliffe and Brookhaven, died October 21, 2017 at his daughter’s home in Morton. Raised in East Lansdowne, he was a graduate of West Catholic, class of ’54. He served honorably in the US Air Force and was an active member of the Aston and Seminole, FL American Legion Posts. He’s best remembered locally as Santa, each year letting his hair and beard grow for that authentic look. To his family, as that strong willed and stubborn steamfitter, he was referred to as “Bad Santa”; underneath that gruff exterior was a heart of gold and he valued his family above all else. Joe enjoyed time with his grandchildren, whether watching their sporting events or just being together at family gatherings. Family came first and trips to Sea Isle and Florida were a close second. When he retired to Florida it was so he could watch the Phillies every spring in Clearwater. A licensed plumber early on, he later worked in the shipyards and spent many years at Scott Paper Company and as a steamfitter with local union 420 until his retirement. Son of the late John and Mary (Corcoran) Mullin, he is the father of Michele (John) Patterson, Tracey (John) Mortimer and Jim (Ariel) Mullin; additional survivors include his former wife, Nan Mullin, grandchildren, Megan (David) Griggs, John Robert, Michael, Kevin and Jenna Patterson, John Francis and Matt Mortimer and Jimmy Mullin; many loving nieces and nephews. Service: Memorial Mass, 11am Mon. at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Franklin Ave.; Morton Arrangements: Toppitzer Funeral Home; Online condolences: www.Toppitzer.us

I'm sorry to hear of Joe's passing. My sincere condolences to Joe's family and friends.

My memories are of Joe from Scott Paper / Kimberly Clark. Joe was an expert of the piping systems throughout the entire plant. He was relied upon by engineers and managers, and he routinely resolved issues that would have otherwise shut down operations.

But Joe was more than a piping expert, he was a great guy for whom you could always trust. And he was a lot of fun at retirement parties as well.

I met Joe when I was a Pulp Prep Mechanic at Scott Paper. He was a great guy to be around and I know he will be missed by his family and friends. I remember when the Pulp Division had new Conveyors installed. Joe was there to make sure the Contractors did all of the Pipe Work correctly. May he Rest in Peace.

Hey Uncle Joe "aka" Pepe. I will always love you and forever hold you dear to my heart. My entire life has memories of being with you. We had a special relationship and I so appreciate how you were always there whenever I needed anything. I will truly miss you. I am so sorry you suffered so much at the end. May you rest in peace but find a Legion in Heaven whenever you have the urge for a Manhattan.

Love, Pattie

I will always love and hold dear to my heart my Uncle Joe a.k.a. "Pepe." I've loved him since I was born. He and my Aunt Nan took me everywhere with them. And, throughout my life, he was always there for me if I ever needed anything. You are so special to so many! You suffered so much at the end. May you rest in peace but find a Legion up in heaven when you have the urge for a Manhattan. Miss you already.

All my love, Pattie
