Peg Zinser Obituary

Peg Mc Grath Zinser, 80 Peg Mc Grath Zinser, 80, of Mildred, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Muncy. Peg lived a long and fulfilling life. Born January 9, 1934 in Mount Kisco, New York, she was a daughter of the late Newton F. and Violet S. Manning Comstock. Peg graduated Saint Mary's High School, Katona, NY in 1951. Her education then continued at Berkley Business School. Upon graduation, she joined Nestle Inc. where she met Jim Mc Grath and married on June 23, 1953. They were then blessed by 6 children. Peg served as a family therapist and in an administrative capacity at Elwyn Institute, a residential facility and foundation for the mentally and physically challenged until her retirement in 2004. She was called to the ministry and graduated in 1996 with her Masters of Divinity degree, from Eastern Baptist Theological seminary. She completed Clinical Pastoral Education study requirements at Fox Chase Cancer Center where she also served later as a volunteer. Peg was married to Dr. Edward Zinser on November 6, 2004. She and Edward settled in northeastern PA, where they joined New Albany Baptist Church and she actively served in a number of ministry areas, first starting a community outreach program, The Sunshine Caf. For nine years she led a Bible Study in the home of Iva Fowler. She was a regular Sunday speaker at New Era UMC, Towanda Personal Care Home, and Sullivan Terrace for the last two years. Survivors: In addition to her husband, are four daughters, Joanne (Larry) Hendersin of Cocoa Beach, FL, Patricia Deemer of Forksville, Lisa LaBar of Wilmington, DE and Joy (Steven) Rzeszotarski of Williamsport; a son, Kenneth (Cathy) Mc Grath of Overton; 14 grandchildren; a sister, Betty Comstock Fox of Arlington Heights, IL; a step-daughter, Emily (James) Owens of Dresher; two step-sons, Bradley Zinser of Havertown and Gregory (Diana) Zinser of Berwyn; a cousin, Ruth Comstock of Newton, MA; several nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Iva Fowler of Overton and Carol Levan of Muncy. In addition to her parents, Peg was preceded in death by her first husband of 46 years, James Kingston Mc Grath, and a son, James "Jimmy" Mc Grath. Service: A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, March 10, at New Albany Baptist Church,178 Main St., New Albany, with Rev. Ronald Troup and Rev. Terry VanHorn co-officiating. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday at the church. Contributions: The family will provide flowers and request that any memorial contributions be made to Susquehanna Health Foundation in support of the Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and mailed to 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701. Arrangements: Have been entrusted to the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.mccartythomas.com.
