Andrew Shay Obituary

Andrew Jackson "Jack" Shay, 89, of Delaware, formerly of Raymond and Columbus, died peacefully Monday (March 11, 2013) at his home surrounded by loved ones.
A lifelong electrician, he was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 683 for over 60 years. He attended Old Stone Presbyterian Church. He was an avid golfer and Ohio State University Buckeyes fan. He made many trips to the Rose Bowl. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and playing cards.
Known to his fellow hiking friends as "Andy Jack," he was a member of the Central Ohio Hiking Club and belonged to Prospect Senior Citizens. He loved being outdoors and will be fondly remembered as an excellent baker and for his joy of mowing the lawn. Above all, he was a jovial, generous and straight-to-the-point gentleman.
He was born Nov. 4, 1923 in Lancaster, Pa., to the late Jacob and Mary M. Allbaugh Shay and was also predeceased by his former wife of 39 years, Frankie Shay; his brother, Chester Shay; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Cawley Shay, whom he married Sept. 29, 2000; two sons, Chester and Roger Shay, both of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Shay of Centerburg; three stepdaughters, Marilou (Bill) Nelson of Delaware, Marcia (Dennis Allen) Peachey, of Florida and Marilyn (Max) Hartsock of Ashley; many grandchildren; and many other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Underwood Funeral Home in Marysville, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Burial will be at Raymond Cemetery will military honors provided by the Union County Military Funeral Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to HomeReach Hospice.

Jack was a member of The Long Drive League at Hidden Valley Golf Course. He will be missed by all.
