Charles "Smitty" Smith, age 76, born and raised in Delaware, Ohio, departed this life on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Kobacker House Inpatient Hospice Care Facility in Columbus.
Born on December 15, 1944, he is survived by brother Lewis Smith, sister Francis Wright, 5 children: Sherrie Smith, Hope Smith, Jackie Smith, Charles Mathew Smith, and Jason Smith, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Honorably discharged, he proudly served in the US Army, from Fort Devens Massachusetts in 1972.
He retired from Hagglunds Denison Corporation Delaware, Ohio in 1990 and from Sigma Chi Fraternity at Ohio Wesleyan University Delaware, Ohio in 2004.
Smitty was loved for his kind generous heart and his love for the Cleveland Browns. He always would say "I hope the Brownies make it to the playoff before I die." The Browns made it to the playoff on January 3, 2021, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-22. Thank you, Cleveland Browns, for making his dream come true.
His family will welcome friends and family for "a celebration of his life" on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Dr. at W. William St., Delaware, Ohio 43015. Friends may call on the family from 2:30–4:30 p.m. and request that your favorite Browns attire be worn to his life celebration. We want to be happy for the time spent and not sorrowful for the time of passing. Due to COVID, restrictions regarding face masks and social distancing will be required by all attendees.
