Debra Lyons Obituary

Debra J. Lyons, 67, of Marietta passed away at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday June 26, 2024, at Marietta Memorial Hospital following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born June 8, 1957, in Baltimore, Maryland to Orvel and Ella (Arthur) Metz. Debra graduated from Calhoun County High School and attended Glenville State University. She was employed as a courier for Marietta Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption. Debra had an extraordinary way of connecting with people both near and far; whether it be at work or while traveling, people warmed to her kind and giving spirit.

Debra is survived by Bernard Lyons. They were wed on June 24, 2004. She is also survived by daughters Amanda Bibey of Washington, West Virginia and Jessica Bibey of Sandford, North Carolina and grandchildren Olivia Alexander, Damian and Eleanor Murphree. Also surviving are her mother Ella Burroughs of Parkersburg, West Virginia and sisters Patti Stump and husband Chick of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia, Beth Warner and husband Don of Parkersburg, West Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a son Patrick McKitrick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 8th at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption with a reception to follow in the basilica's social hall. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Gospel Mission Food Pantry, Marietta Area Recycling Center, and St. Vincent De Paul Society.
