Judge Henry E. Shaw, Jr., 84, of Delaware, died peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2022.
Henry was born on August 24, 1938 in Latrobe, PA to the late Henry E. and Marjorie H. (Hendrickson) Shaw. He was a proud graduate of the Derry Borough High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from St. Vincent College in Pennsylvania and his Juris Doctor degree from the Ohio Northern University College of Law. Henry began his legal career as an associate attorney at Scales and Shaw Law Firm in Greensburg, PA where he worked for a short time. On October 3, 1964, Henry married the love of his life, Sharon Trout. They returned to Delaware and in 1968, he began serving the citizens of Delaware County as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. From 1970-1976, he was the county's Prosecuting Attorney, and he took office as a Judge of the Common Pleas Court, General Division, in 1976. He served 27 years in this capacity until his retirement in 2003, making him the longest serving General Division Common Pleas Judge in Delaware County history.
Judge Shaw's passion for history also had distinguished him as an essential member of the community and he played an integral role in preserving the information, artifacts and traditions that comprise our history. Henry had been involved with the Delaware County and Ohio Historical Societies, as well as a member of such organizations as the National Trust for Historical Preservation, Sons of the American Revolution (Benjamin Franklin Chapter), the Civil War Preservation Trust, and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. His love of history was exceeded only by his commitment to Civil War reenactments as a member of Battery I of the 1st Ohio Light Artillery. Henry's other interests were carpentry, furniture restoration, cars, dogs, firearm collecting and shooting, and English choral and organ music of the Baroque era. Henry was also a longtime member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 18, and was an honorary member of the Delaware County Vietnam Veteran's.
Surviving is his wife Sharon, of 58 years; daughter, Jennifer (Mark) Gams of Worthington; grandsons, David Gams and William Gams, both of Worthington; brother-in-laws, John R. McCreary and Bill Law; niece, Betsey McCreary; and nephews, Matthew McCreary and Mark (Carolyn) Law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne McCreary; sister-in-law, Martha Law; and maternal-in-laws, John E. Trout and Mary K. Trout.

A was sorry to hear of Henry´s passing. My husband and I always loved stopping to talk to him on our walks. My Bill always enjoyed their military talks. Bill passed in June 2021. Henry was a wonderful man, but most importantly a loving husband. My sincere sympathy.

To the family of Judge Henry Shaw, I send my deepest condolences. The judge was the kindest
and most friendly Judge Delaware, Ohio has ever
had. No matter who you were when he would pass you on the sidewalk he would smile and greet you. The good lord has received a wonderful
human being. He will be sadly missed.
